Once upon a time, back in 1998, a man came to Nepal after his retirement from business and fell in love with these ramshackled and then completely derelict houses he had discovered on Chobhar hill! And so he proceeded to renovate them ali, ali as the nepalis say…slowly…progressively…and as time and money permitted. Tis’ true that the project may have taken ten years, but today fully renovated Chobhar Resort and Restaurant complex, is a testimony to what can be done with limited means, provided it is done with love, passion, perspicacity, creative effort and positive energy.

The man’s name is Theo. Having spent most of his life in France, a good part of his inspiration for creating this “Hidden Paradise” and preserving Newar/Nepali culture and heritage in this Chobhar project can be traced back to La Belle France and the same general remark applies to Chobhar Restaurant’s Haute Cuisine.

No wonder then, our “Chobhar House” and “Kathmandu Restaurant” remind so many of our visitors and guests from the Continent of a French style “Auberge” right here in Kathmandu Valley!
